SIERRA LEONEAN ARTIST : ALFRED TAYLOR CREATES HYPER- REALISTIC DRAWINGS WITH A BALL POINT PEN

This world is but a canvas to our imagination.”
Henry David Thoreau

Meet Alfred Taylor, a Sierra Leonean ball point artist whose work is making waves! He creates hyper- realistic drawings that leaves his audiences thankful for art and lovers of creativity, enthusiastic about the future of Sierra Leonean artists.

Creativity for Alfred means taking risks, ignoring doubt and facing fears. He believes that to be identified as a creative, one must have these three qualities:

  1. Imagination

  2. Motivation

  3. Ambition

When Taylor puts pen to paper , he translates into another realm. For him ball point art is unusual and so easy to settle into. He draws his inspiration from daily life and loves experimenting with ideas to create themes.

Did you know that?

His paintings are affordable and it takes him about 4-5 days to complete a portrait. ‘I always want my clients to appreciate my work so I take it detail by detail’.

When you have a dream that you can’t let go of, trust your instincts and pursue it. But remember: Real dreams take work, They take patience, and sometimes they require you to dig down very deep. Be sure you’re willing to do that. Harvey Mackay

Mr. Taylor like many other artists in Africa, has many challenges in terms of people appreciating his work and valuing the skills , time and passion involved. He has a firm resolve of becoming the very best at what He does. This  will remain his number one goal.

His daily challenges are:

1.Sourcing Materials – This can be difficult and sometimes expensive when available. As a start-up- artist, pre-financing projects can get tough.

2.Access to storage-  Storing Materials in the right temperature can be challenging.

Everybody needs a little inspiration from time to time! Alfred has a deep admiration for these three artists:

  • De Monk – a cartoonist based in Sierra Leone, His an inspiration to many young artists. His work can be found in the leading local newspapers

  • Enam Bosokah (Ghana)

  • Mostafa  Khodeir (Egypt)- Enam and Mostafa are ballpoint pen artists except De Monk who is a cartoon artist. I use to admire him since I was a kid. They all doing amazing jobs.

He dreams of a time when he would exhibit His work internationally. He looks forward to working with other artists in the sub-region and beyond.
