2 SEASONS RESORT : THE PERFECT STAYCATION

2 Seasons Resort; which opened its doors to the public in December 2019 is owned by a lovely couple, Nadia and Rami. The resort is located on Tokeh Beach along the Freetown Peninsula; famous for its crisp white sand and clear blue waters.

The spacious and homely villas overlook the Atlantic Ocean and was the perfect place for our family staycation. The beachfront villas contain 2 bedrooms, a living room, a kitchenette and a private wooden deck. The poolside villas are the same except for the wooden deck. The master bedroom; which spots a king size bed is grand and is complete with a seating area and a balcony for watching the waves crash on the beach whilst you enjoy a cuppa. The guest room (downstairs) has a Queen-sized bed and a single bed which is great if you have children or are a large group of friends. A villa can accommodate up to 5 guests comfortably. The kitchenette was ultraconvenient for us for washing our toddlers’ bottles, cups and bowls. The villas are fitted with electric water heaters for hot showers with good water pressure and there’s almost 24hr electricity. There’s a closet and also a safe to keep your valuables and cash. The resort is fenced off (though easily accessible) from the main beach so our children could play safely without us hovering over them. The words that come to mind are comfort and luxury!

Nadia and Rami live in Freetown with their 2 boys but spend weekends at the resort though Rami visits almost daily because of the proximity of his other workplace. According to Nadia, they don’t need to be there often as she believes the staff is capable. Most of the staff is local from the area; Katie the bar manager has lived in Tokeh community for 12 years whilst Amos; our regular waiter (and my sometimes photographer) was born and bred in the community. They were professional and warm but not overly familiar. The owners and staff responded quickly to our queries and issues.

In these Covid19 times, safety is paramount and we felt reassured by the measures taken by the staff. They always wore masks whilst interacting with guests and we were sprayed with a disinfectant solution from our heads to the sole of our shoes before being allowed to check into our villa. Nadia also reassured me that each villa is disinfected with the same solution when their guests checkout; which is why they have implemented at least a 3-hour wait period between check out and check in to allow for this process.

Because of the available space and size, we took almost all of our meals in our villas in the living room or on the wooden deck when the weather permitted. It was for convenience as well as safety as it limited our interaction with other guests. The menu could do with more variety and I mentioned this to Nadia who agreed with me and said they are still experimenting to see what they can handle as they don’t want to disappoint their guests. The villa prices are on the high side so you need to save up for the weekend, but the food prices are at par with what you will pay at restaurants in Freetown.

The only con I have and I mentioned this to the owners is that the master bedroom has no door so there’s no privacy (Cue our children creeping up to our bedroom at 3am!! Not that a door would have stopped them).

It truly was the perfect place to get away from the monotony of life during Covid19. If you are looking to get away with your family or a group of friends, I recommend staying at 2 Seasons Resort. The villas are too big for a couple getaway but the owners are considering converting two of them into single room flats so that they can accommodate couples looking for a romantic getaway.
