DONALD DAVIES COLE: LIGHTHEARTEDNESS IS THE SOLUTION TO THE WORLD’S PROBLEMS

Donald Henry Davies-Cole. First and only son of three children to parents both alive.

His antics started at a small nursery in the middle of Dove Cot Market at the East end of Freetown to a life of the privileged at The Tower Hill Municipal School.

Donald is known to many as a realist! His colleagues and friends call him Honourable Davies Cole, a nickname that commands laughter and small talk. He is a proud alumni of The Sierra Leone Grammar School (an esteemed all boys school in Sierra Leone) and The Fourah Bay College.

Davies-Cole believes that dreams are to be lived. His only dream is to not leave this world and die in obscurity.

He aspires to be a chartered banker and chases his ambition at The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria. Simultaneously his fun-loving/ truth- preaching alter ego ensures that everyone he encounters has some memory of the time spent together or should have something to show for it.

RANDOM THOUGHTS GO WILD

I finally decided to heed the many calls to get a bigger audience for my daily insights. I needed a name that would show the extent to which the thought process went into making social life and its issues simpler. The fact is that the world recognizes that many seemingly casual issues like relationships or battered pasts can give way to a collapse of society. Thus we need all sorts of interventions to release the negative energies that easily cloud our best thoughts.

The ultimate vision is to have a 360 view of the social scene in Sierra Leone, eventually we hope to become the premier channel for social issues. We must understand that the everyday frustrations, faced in our world today needs an outlet. Societal issues easily spill into the national scenes and lead to major incidents.

THE HIGHWAY TO ICONISM OR VILLAINSIM

It’s now cliché, to use the term public figure. Regardless it adds a certain persona to the ordinary man. I think to be addressed as a public figure is quite a broad term, because in my silly thought process even serial killers and highway robbers have become public figures. As they have followers who adore and even worship their tiniest acts or memories. Bonnie and Clyde have songs written after them, even though most of the stories become exaggerated or fables.

However in the ideal world, a public figure is a pioneer, a person who is involved in processes that shape the world.

I aspire to this status and hopefully in a few years from now, with God being my helper we shall review and stake the required claims to that title.

HUSH NAYSAYERS

Most of what i speak on and about are either common sense issues or based on my rather vast interaction with hundreds of people across the world. Over time, I have acquired corporate and financial knowledge that allows me to mix motivation with tips for real pathways of growth.

On days when the detractors rush to mention capacity, my answer is ‘qualification by experience ‘ and the ability to discern.

Public speaking on social issues is especially tricky in Sierra Leone, where opinions are easily misconstrued and delivered as attacks on government or support for political parties. We are still far off from gaining the ability to simply listen and not judge the messenger.

MY NOTE TO SELF

This year would go down as a really tough one because of the major decisions I have had to make. My note to self is simple. ‘Walk the talk’

LIGHTHEARTEDNESS IS THE SOLUTION TO THE WORLD’S PROBLEMS

Life is too short to live every moment on very serious thoughts and considerations. Good humour always brings out another angle to every issue. I pride myself in the fact that folks with a good sense of humour are normally the smart ones in the room.

Two people can say the same thing and one would result to war and the other would be laughter around the room.

I often realize that I walk around with the ability to say every thought in my mind and make it sound like a joke.  Well until i walk away and people realize that they have a bullet wound.
